Mohammad Rafi’s duets with other female singers appear reasonably respectable in numbers. However, in terms of depth of penetration, i.e. range of co-singers or music directors the duets do look at the very initial stage of its enveloping wave formation. In fact the range of music directors and the number of Rafi duets with Shamshad Begum can be said more to the reflection of her strong acceptance at that point of time. Few duets had attained a high popularity level, but these are too few and far in between.

Next, we will take up, spread over three parts, Male Female Duets of Other Singers for Micro View of Songs of 1948.
Ashokji,
Thanks a lot for your painstaking compilation. The two duets composed by CR in Nadiya Ke Paar stand out as the most popular and everlasting. The discovery was Ek abre siah, another song on the standard Heer tune. Rafi has figured in at least five more that I know [composed by CR (‘Safar’), Anil Biswas (at least two in ‘Heer’, OP Nayyar (‘Naya Daur’), and SJ (‘Mera Naam Joker’)]. I remember I have mentioned a Surendra and a Mukesh song too on my blog.
I hope the mystery of Bairan ho gayi raat piya bin is solved. The link you had given in your post on female solos was by Juthika Roy.

I have been separately tracking Rafi’s first solo with any music director. In the process, I keep on landing up several gems that I have just not heard.
The credit for my such endeavors go to the ‘Best songs of 1948: And the winners are?’ series on SoY.
In fact I could land upon the real duet version of ‘Bairan ho gayi raat piya bin’ in this process only. So I have removed the erroneously placed YT link from the original post of ‘Other Female Singers’.
Thanking you for all this is fruitless because such words can never express my true feelings of gratitude.
